Why it happens
- Adding a payroll entity is a guided, human-led step — Deel's own onboarding guide puts an Onboarding Manager in charge of it before anything else can happen. — Deel: Global Payroll Onboarding Experience

- So: setup starts blank and depends on a person to run it by hand — it should start filled in and run itself.
The fix
- Today: Onboarding Manager manually configures each entity, collects documents, re-signs contracts, and sets country compliance rules — no fixed timeline.
- Customer answers: A few structured questions per entity — country, entity type, workforce — much of it already known to Deel from signup.
- Deel fills in: System encodes entity + country compliance rules and runs the deterministic setup steps — same outcome, whichever Onboarding Manager is assigned.
- Customer checks: Customer reviews and approves a real checklist against a real date. Onboarding Manager reviews only what's flagged as an exception.
- Not doing: letting the system approve compliance setup on its own. Every entity's setup is reviewed by the customer and, on anything flagged, by the Onboarding Manager before it goes live.
The number

- No public number yet exists for what slow, manual entity setup costs a Deel customer directly. Finding that number — in hours, in delayed time-to-revenue, or in support load — would be the first test.
What I'd test first
- Why them: Not net-new signups — customers already live on Deel who are adding another legal entity. Their first entity's country, structure, and workforce data already exist in Deel, so more of the new entity's setup can be pre-filled from it.
- What to measure: How much of the pre-filled setup the customer keeps unchanged, and days from 'add entity' to that entity's first live payroll run — against today's manual timeline.
- What to watch: Pre-filled compliance data may not carry cleanly across countries or entity types. Show the customer exactly what was carried over and ask them to confirm it before anything goes live.
- If it holds for 2nd and 3rd entities, expand it to net-new multi-entity signups next.
